The Club has a long history of members participating in local and national time trialing events and the Club organizes an Open Event over 25 miles each year. There are currently a large number of members entering time trials over distances from 10 miles to 100 miles and events lasting 12/24 hours.
The Club is affiliated to the Cycling Time Trials (CTT).
The Club is able to offer coaching help and advice to members and there are opportunities for racing members to get together in the Club Room to discuss events, Equipment and other related issues. New members wishing to become involved in time trialing would be well advised to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge within the Club.
During the Spring and Summer members organize a series of “Club Events” on a Thursday evening, alternating between a five mile time trial one week and a hill climb the following week, These events run through from the middle of May to early September.
These races take place during the winter months, there is a league which runs races on courses throughout South Wales.
The races take place off road on grass type tracks. The Club has had members entering events over many years though in the recent past there has not been such a keen interest.
However in more recent times there has been a resurgence of interest in the event with previous members rejoining and taking part and also newer members taking an interest and using events to prolong their competitive season.
Road races are large group events that take place on the open roads or closed circuits over a pre-determined distance. They demands great endurance, bike handling skill, and tactical know-how. Many ACME members have gained these skills and currently a number of members take part in this skilful style of racing. There are racing categories from youth to senior for both men and women, with a category system from 4th category to elite ensuring that there’s suitable competition for riders of varying standards.
Road racing takes place on a variety of different courses. The majority of traditional road racing takes place on the open road, with vehicular marshals marking the nose and the tail of a race. Circuit racing takes place on closed-road circuits such as Llandow motor circuit were many of our members have developed their skills and still ride in very competitive events. ACME Members regularly achieve positions at the end of the races and collect points which then categorises them in future races.
