Gareth Clements and Glyndwr Lewis were the first of the Club’s teams to battle against the wind. Glyndwr pulled out at about half distance leaving Gareth to complete the distance in a very creditable 1 hour 2 minutes and 21 seconds.
Twenty minutes later Gareth Battle and Chris Woolley joined the fight with the elements. Gareth lost out, suffering a puncture and leaving Chris to record 1hr 01m 48s.
Next up were Anthony Redman and Jayson James who worked well together and were unfortunate not to beat the hour, recording 1hr 00m 05s. They will accept donations to buy a better quality watch before the next event.
Carl Banwell and Ryan Evans were expected to turn-in a good time but Ryan found himself struggling from the start and eventually told Carl to continue alone. On returning to the headquarters at Resolven, Ryan found that his mis-aligned rear brake was rubbing so hard against the wheel it was difficult to turn by hand! Carl did well to finish in 1hr 01m 05s.
Last of the contenders were John Hughes and new member Rhys Jones who finished together, breaking the hour and so beating Anthony and Jayson with a time of 59m 50s. Congratulations to them and all who rode.
The event was won by Darren Carpenter and D.Povall in the unbelievable time of 54m 50s, almost a full minute clear of Colin Wallace and Steve Barrett.
